PRODUCT RECALL – In the wake of a major recall last week of 56,000 additional baby cribs manufactured by Jardine Enterprises, the Consumer Product Safety Commission today issued an even much larger recall for 535,000 baby cribs manufactured by Stork Craft Manufacturing, Inc. The Stork Craft baby cribs were recalled because the metal brackets used to support the mattress were found to easily crack and break. In such circumstances, the mattress would collapse creating a large gap where a baby or child could get trapped and suffocate.
Given the seriousness of potential injury, it is important that a baby or young child not be exposed to its proximity. If you or anyone you know have a cribs manufactured by Stork Craft that is the subject of the recall, disassemble the crib immediately. You should then return the crib immediately to the store where you purchased it for a full refund. The Stork Craft cribs were sold at J.C. Penney, Kmart, Wal-Mart and other stores around the country between May 2000 and January 2000. The cribs were also available for sale online at amazon.com, babiesrus.com, costco.com and walmart.com.
